The Black Stars Benefit Dinner celebrates the rich flavors of West Africa while supporting our upcoming third annual Black Star Homecoming Expedition to Ghana. 🌍

This summer, nine youth leaders from Portland will travel to Ghana from June 28 to July 13, 2025 to deepen their connection to African heritage and leadership. 🥘

At the Benefit Dinner, guests will enjoy a specially curated menu of West African cuisine while hearing inspiring stories from our youth leaders and local influencers. The evening will feature powerful conversations with:

Lakayana Drury, Word Is Bond’s founder and executive director
Djimet Dogo, project advisor
Jason Hill, trip photographer and Portland-based creative
Chef Fatou Ouattara, Akadi’s renowned chef

Setting the tone for the night, DJ Afreankano will curate an exclusive playlist of Afro beats to elevate the experience. Guests will also have the chance to win exclusive raffle prizes throughout the evening.

Dress to impress—whether it’s formal attire or traditional African clothing—and don’t forget your dancing shoes!
